Steiff Royal Platinum Paper Teddy Bear
This is the first paper plush Teddy ever manufactured in platinum gray. The technology for making paper 'fur', originally developed to create replacement textiles during post-war shortages, was rediscovered by Steiff in 2010. Since then, it has been used for only the most rare and important limited editions.
Paper Teddy is a wonderful 12 inches, perfect size for display. He is five-way jointed with striking silver metallic paw pads that are sewn from Pinatex®, an innovative textile made from pineapple leaf fibers discarded after the pineapple harvest. He has a handsome sideways stitched nose and his individually crafted 'boot button'-style eyes are made of wood by a long-time Steiff supplier to replicate those used by the company through about 1910. Paper Teddy wears a custom chest tag design based on Steiff's early elephant logo, a trademark frequently used as a stencil to paint identification on the company's transport crates in the early 1900's. Only 919 pieces will be manufactured, marking the year 1919 when the first paper bear made its debut. He 'bears' a silver plated Steiff 'button-in-ear'. Royal Platinum Paper Teddy EAN 006999 is a 2019 Steiff worldwide Fall edition limited to 919 pieces. Although this is a collectors item, it is suitable for ages 14 years and up.
